Montana Bankers PAC

Montana Bankers PAC

Invest in the Future of Banking

Q:  Why should I contribute to Montana Bankers PAC?

A:  Montana Bankers PAC supports and builds relationships with the political candidates who support our industry.  This ensures Montana bankers have influence in state government.

Each of us has a stake in the future of the banking industry.  Like it or not, that future is largely dependent on the Montana Legislature and our state elected officials.  We all need to contribute to a viable future for banking.

Q:  What is Montana Bankers PAC?

A:  MBA formed Montana Bankers PAC to raise funds from our members and other individuals, and then contributes these funds directly to the campaigns of political candidates who support the banking industry.

Q:  Who may contribute?

A:  Montana bankers or any individual over 18 years of age may contribute to Montana Bankers PAC.  The PAC may only accept contributions drawn from personal accounts, i.e., not drawn from business or corporate accounts.

Q:  How much should I contribute?

A:  Montana Bankers PAC depends upon personal contributions from individuals.  The following levels provided suggested giving amounts.  We recognize contributors throughout the year and at our MBA events.  Of course, we will gladly accept any amount you deem appropriate.

     Founder – $1,000

     President – $500

     Board – $250

Q:  How does Montana Bankers PAC decide which state candidates to support?

A:  MBA’s Executive Committee carefully reviews state-level political candidates and makes their decisions based upon several considerations.  Most important is whether the candidate supports the interests of Montana banks and our customers.  Other considerations include potential for legislative leadership, committee assignments, and likelihood of winning their election.  MBA notifies our members of the candidates the PAC is supporting throughout the year, typically via email.

Q:  What are some examples of how Montana Bankers PAC has benefited me lately?

A:  In 2023, the banking industry was in the crosshairs of some Montana legislators.  SB 361 would have opened the door for lawsuits against a bank if a loan was denied to a manufacture or seller of firearms, even if the business was not creditworthy.  Another bill would have punished banks for not doing business with certain industry sectors.  Our support of candidates and relationships with legislators that our industry built through Montana Bankers PAC helped us kill these disastrous pieces of anti-bank legislation.
